lil kunj drools over River Island’s Spring/Summer 2012 lookbook
Back in early December a few pictures surfaced on the net from the lucky bloggers who got invited to preview River Island’s Spring/Summer ’12 collection. I have to say I was pretty jealous. I wanted an invite too, mainly because from the pictures that I’ve had a peek at, what River Island has in store for this year is pretty delicious looking. Last night I found their look book for the collection on their website. I have to say I don’t tend to shop in River Island, not because I don’t like the clothes, I’m just either short of time or at times a bit lazy and hence am a department store kinda girl. Good old House of Fraser and Selfridges usually sorts me out in my times of need.
I’m really impressed with what River Island has on offer. Although when initially looking at the pictures some of the collection reminded me of 80’S Versace and the recent Versace for H&M collaboration. There are a lot of bright colours and daring prints, including some funky tribal patterns that I love, but can never really pull off. There’s Aztec print, animal print, platforms (yes, I said platforms!) neon and nautical, you name it, they’ll probably have something inspired by it.
They also have some studded, multicoloured shoes, which I assume have taken inspiration from the spikey studded Louboutins that the lucky jammers who can afford the high-end stuff seem to have been rocking these past few months. Guys take note; don’t upset a girl who is wearing these River Island beauties! Just think pain, lots and lots of pain. My favourite items, which I really can’t wait to get my hands on, are the cropped bandeau tops, which have the matching skirts. I’m not sure whether I’ll invest in the whole ensemble, or whether to invest in just one item, the skirt or the top. I’m also not too sure which one to buy as they have a selection of prints and designs and they all want really want to have a home in my wardrobe.
The collection is definitely bold, edgy and is designed to get you noticed and turn heads. I like that. However I understand that there are others who aren’t too comfortable with that, so good old River Island have not forgotten about them and there are some spectacular pieces which are more toned down in their style, but have subtle detailing which still gives you the feel of being dressed up and wearing something special.
Loving all of this! Jen xoxo http://mystylisticlife.com XOXO
