lil kunj and Bristol’s Mayfest Festival
This one is for fellow Bristolians, West Country folk and anyone who is visiting us city bumpkins over the next week and a bit.
Friday was the start of the Mayfest Festival in Bristol. The event turns Bristol into a a theatrical playground over the next few days with various bits and bobs of local, national and international theatre around the city.
Bristol’s theatrical hotspots are involved, including Bristol Old Vic, Arnolfini and The Tobacco Factory, but the event is as much about the little guys as the traditional fodder. The 26 shows will take you to less well known streets and suburban garages.
One of the highlights include Belarus’ Free Theatre MINSK 2011, which explores and examines life under Europe’s last dictatorship.
The smaller productions can be far more intimate and at least one invites you for a beer and a barbecue after.
The festival’s social scene is as quirky as the festival itself, you can hang out at festival café at the Parlour on College Green as well as attending the Blind Tiger which is the festivals late night hang out.
The event runs until 26th of May. For more information, tickets and programme events head to http://mayfestbristol.co.uk/
